Mass Deletion Requests
[edit]When you nominate more than two or three images in the same category or from the same uploader for deletion, as you did at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Full scale GUNDAM - panoramio (21).jpg and related images, please use VFC. It will save you considerable time in making the nominations and it saves the closing Admin one click per file plus having to write only one closing comment for the whole batch. You can access it easily by using
or learn more at Help:VisualFileChange.js. Thanks, . Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 13:06, 26 January 2017 (UTC)
- By the way, I should add that I very much appreciate all the effort you have made in cleaning out FOP problems in Japan -- in the past week I must have deleted 100s of them that you nominated before I posted this. Keep up the good work! . Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 12:38, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you. --G I Chandor (talk) 02:06, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
--G I Chandor (talk) 08:40, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
--Kkairri (talk) 14:27, 15 February 2017 (UTC)
--G I Chandor (talk) 03:56, 16 February 2017 (UTC)
Texts
[edit]Hello, please read and understand COM:TOO first before nominating an image which contains simple text for deletion. Text are obviously not copyrightable unless if there is originality on it, such as calligraphy. Thanks, ★ Poké95 02:31, 11 February 2017 (UTC)
- In Commons:Deletion requests/File:KandaMyojinZenigataHeijiSign8808.jpg, the administrator said "In the USA and most other countries, any text of one sentence or more has a copyright as a literary work.". Thank you.--G I Chandor (talk) 08:53, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
- Hmm, if that's the case, the threshold of originality for the U.S. on texts is too high. Weird. I am going to ask Jim on this since if this is the true, then a possible mass deletion is on the way. ★ Poké95 10:48, 14 February 2017 (UTC)
Please don't forget to categorize deletion discussions
[edit]With categories like Category:FoP-Japan or undelete in 20xx. Please see the categories I added to Commons:Deletion requests/File:Zojo-ji Temple Minata Tokyo August 2014 51.JPG. Thanks! --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 02:29, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
- Hello, User:Piotrus. Please teach me. Does the person who submitted DR must always categorize the DR?--G I Chandor (talk) 03:48, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
- Must, no. But I think it is best practice, through sometimes it is hard to do - when we don't know details about image, etc (copyvios). But since you were able to identify the reasons/dates so well, those items are very good examples of what can be tagged for future review and rescue (even if it can happen decades down the road). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 09:17, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you for your reply. If it is not submitter's duty, I want to leave it to others. Because I think that it is not good for the submitter to edit it.--G I Chandor (talk) 09:45, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
- I believe that if you are taking upon yourself to delete (or nominate for deletion) the work of others, you should follow the said best practices and add undeletion categories. Not doing so, IMHO, is showing a lack of regard and respect for the uploader, the Commons community and the spirit of free culture. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 04:25, 6 March 2017 (UTC)

Deletion requests.
[edit]Hi G.I. Chandor, I noticed you requested to remove some pictures. One of the pictures was taken by me in a public park for no commercial purpose. As i am no lawyer i assume you are right that the picture is not allowed on the Commons. I just wonder how does this picture bother you personally and what is your benefit to delete this picture? Just for your information. I have no commercial benefit of putting this picture on the Commons and only put it there for information so people might be inspired even more to visit your (i assume you are Japanese) beautiful country. Note I realize that somebody might copy the picture and use it for commercial benefit. If so i think they can use better quality pictures.--Butch (talk) 11:45, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
- Hi, Butch. Your idea is that "I want many people to know about the beautiful country". It's very wonderful idea. But, images of copyrighted statue in Japan aren't allowed in Commons, unfortunately. (See Commons:Freedom_of_panorama#Japan.) We must obey Commons policy. Which do you like orderly Commons or chaotic Commons ? If you like orderly Commons, I want you to understand the necessity of deletion requests. Good luck!--G I Chandor (talk) 23:28, 26 February 2017 (UTC)
